When you strip away the vitriol / you’re left with hollow slogans / just some proverbs belaying a sense of self / with a core that’s see-through trojan / You know, none of them really speak to me / These ‘cans and ‘crats don’t get it / Be they heroes / Anti-Heroes / Villains / Geniuses / or bumbling nitwits / It’s scorched earth politics / and grand delusions / And the best of all will fail to modernize / our fenced off constitution / Ah, these Representatives rarely speak for us / When did truth become a riddle? / It’s always left or right / Where is the Hallowed Middle!? / It’s crazy / when we’re free to choose / It’s crazy / that some win, all lose / When brand trumps policy / and bribes are called “donations” / we get partisan attacks and distorted facts / that breed ignorance across the nation / Aww, Shit flows down / shit flows down / shit flows down / and cash flows up / And not one cent of ours will speak for us / when lobbies run amok / In defense of “Common Sense” / I feel compelled to speak / We’ve lost all philosophy / Now we spin our wheels / And advertise for the next king / And it makes me want to scream / It’s crazy / when we’re free to choose / It’s crazy / that some win, all lose / I’ll never stump for you / unless you stump for me / It’s crazy / debating the news / It’s crazy / we’re coming unglued.

On The Hunt 02:45
Out across the moor a banshee keens / Eyes sharp, as Yeti blend, unseen / A booming clap of thunderbirds alight / The beasts all gather it is their time / I’m moving on the hunt for cryptids / It’s time to hunt some cryptids / From loch bottom to the tallest jungle trees / I’ve searched distant lands for myth and missing links / We’re on our way to see / if monsters roam the deep / On redwood shores i’ve found / giant prints in muddy ground / And on the isle Tasmane / there might still be thylacine / I hear Bunyip howls at night / a mirage, it fades from sight / It’s gone.
11.
Revolution / What does it mean to you? / Some noise pollution, or a / powerful uniting truth? / So tell me / if this is our chance to make a change, can we / make bigger strides and deviate? / This revelation / is loaded and the fuse is lit / Let’s get loud / A Declaration / When in the course of human events / On radios and TV screens, its seems / we’ve become a nation of “me” / This land is your land, and mine / Self-evident, a truth divine / Want revolution? / Challenge everything you think you think / And all the ladies should sing / I wanna hear your dissension foaming / And all the tints and the shades / I wanna hear your decisions forming / We’re tripping up in debate / it’s time to get a new discourse started / Let’s shake this land of the free / Can you hear our petition roaring, now? / How bout now? / How bout now? / How bout now? / I can make it loud / Now is our chance to break out, our revolution revelations / Now is the time to make our revelations, a revolution / It’s time to make a difference, and constitute a revolution / Let’s break down our indifference; a recipe for revolution / “We’ve got to try to change it” – a revolution revelation / “I won’t stand by and take it” – a revolution revelation / What We the People wrought, can only be undone by / We the People with all of our voices combined / Now is our chance to break out, our revolution revelations / Now is the time to make our revelations, a revolution.
12.
Oh, son of a bitch, I swear I love you madly / But my soul needs to sail, to make westing, to search for sanity / To bathe in warming tides / To learn to let it lie / If I’m lucky or rich, I’ll land an atoll or an island / With no conflict, no politic, disarmed and silent / tact and trim, my will be calm out in the doldrums / And with aches in my heart I sing this song for my sweet little dolphin / but if I keep it even keel / Maybe we can heal / As we fall apart / We’ll learn to fall / We learn to fall / Until we learn to stand / We’ll fall apart / We’ll fall / Until we learn to stand this / Misunderstanding.

about

Like modern-day Joads, Los Angeles transplants BREAK! have found fertile soil amidst the urban decay and are planting heirloom musical seeds of the varietals rock, punk, alternative, grunge, and post-punk.

Filled with edgy, energetic hard rock riffs counterbalanced with alt rock textures and pointed punk effusing, their eponymous 2018 release is a welcome kick in the teeth, something real and visceral though likely esoteric in this world of looping dance grooves. There is a rhythmic drive in their music that calls forth movement and gyration, harkening to the definition of the slang from which Rock and Roll was named. With biting and often playful lyrics, BREAK! strikes out squarely against musical apathy and demands we unite or untie, we strip off our bumper sticker identities, and we arm our hearts lest they be disarmed.

The front man, Rob Sherwood (Jeff August Ego Trip, New Media) plucks strings and flexes chords with a primal, ritualistic energy. The superb vocals of Miss Kim Kozel create harmonic depth and mesh well with the raspy leads. With the deft guitar picking thumbs of Justin Harris and the thunderous drumming of Alex Wyatt (Lust & Lies), BREAK!’s bones will shake yours.

Turn it on, crank it up, find the nearest highway and mash the gas pedal – it will all make sense as the mad world turns motion blur.

Rock. Roll. Noise. Energy. Conflict. Change. Philosophy. Love. Lust. Life. Death. These are just words, this is not art.
